Del’s alphabet system almost spelt disaster for the Banker

Del’s alphabet system almost spelt disaster for the Banker

There was definitely a gambling atmosphere in the Dream Factory. “If you are still unsure whether you’re a gambler or not, remember ‘OHO’… Del!” announced Noel. Del didn’t dilly dally as he carried box 19 down the Walk of Wealth.  His Dad was born in Cyprus and moved to the Elephant and Castle at three months old. Del was born in Woolwich. Noel discovered that Del is known for his ‘Del-isms’ which included him asking “how old was I when I was born?” When he received a Valentine’s card which read ‘I’ve admired you from afar’ Del asked where ‘afar’ was! Del admitted to having OCD and brought a photograph of his kitchen cupboards. All the tins had the labels facing outwards and his herbs were arranged in alphabetical order. Noel wanted Del to win a tidy sum and wished him good luck.

Del claimed to have no system before picking Newbie Carly to open box 12, which hid 10p. £35,000, £500 and £750 were then wiped off the board. Daphne completed the round perfectly with 1p! She ran down the Walk of Wealth to claim her kiss. “£90,000 in two days!” Moaned the Banker but the Pilgrims cheered with delight. The Banker had a couple more ‘Del-isms’ “Do electric cars use petrol?” and Del also asked “do rabbits sleep?” The Banker conceded it was the best opening round for some time and offered £11,500 – No Deal.  Del insisted he was ‘just picking boxes’ after Noel suspected he had a secret system. 50p and £20,000 were found first in round two. The Banker rang early to predict the next box would be opened by Dennis.  Noel wondered if the Banker had sussed Del’s system. “Clever Banker” said Del who did indeed have a secret system.  Dennis completed the round with £75,000. The Banker didn’t want Del opening Emma’s box next so the offer was £11,500 – No Deal.  Emma did start round three by opening box two, which hid £50. The Banker rang again to say Harry and ‘Giraffe fingers’ were going to be the next two boxes. Indeed they were and they unveiled £10,000 and £100,000. The Banker wanted to get Del out of the game and help those who have failed to guess Del’s system in his offer. £11,500 and a tin of alphabet soup – No Deal.

Noel ordered an all-blue fourth round. Del obliged by finding £1, £10 and £5. Noel thought it was a lovely notion that our first male Quarter of a Millionaire could be Del Boy. “Lovely jubbly” said Del. The Banker was fearful that Del might think ‘he who dares wins’ so he told him not to be a ‘plonker’ and take £17,500 – No Deal. Del believed in destiny £15,000 and £100 left one blue on the board in round five.  Noel talked about the physiological difference finding the last blue would make. £3,000 completed the round. The Banker offered ‘the governor’ £26,000, after some mixed advice from the wings, Del chose to – No Deal. £50,000 and £1,000 were revealed in the final round. The Banker wanted to buy Del’s box now for £30,000 – No Deal. Rob completed the round with £5,000 leaving a £250 / £250,000 finish. Del said the first thing he would do with his winnings is buy a kitchen blind! The Banker described Del as ‘brave’ and ‘determined’ before offering a massive £70,000! Noel told Del that he would need to make an uncomfortable decision if he was to win the £250,000. Del was ready for the question – Deal! Del wouldn’t have swapped so Noel flipped box 19 to unveil £250,000! Noel described the game as ‘insane’ and Del was gutted but taking home £70,000 meant he couldn’t be too gutted.  Del was going to spoil himself by getting a Venetian kitchen blind.
